Crash over the Aegean Greek pilot missing after collision with Turk F-16; FMs urge calm

A Greek fighter pilot was feared dead yesterday after his F-16 collided with a Turkish air force jet over the Aegean Sea, prompting a flurry of diplomatic exchanges between Athens and Ankara as the two sides attempted to prevent the situation becoming a full-blown crisis.

Seeking profits without any risks
All over the world, business activity is subject to two presuppositions - risk and profit. The shareholders of any particular company always undertake certain risks with any individual venture and, subsequently, reap the benefits that such an enterprise may bear. This is how capitalism has achieved great things in every Western country - every country, that is, except Greece.

In every crisis in Greek-Turkish relations, such as yesterday's midair collision over the Aegean, the question of political consensus assumes greater significance. By coincidence, this same issue is the subject of political debate between the two major parties at this time, as PASOK rehashes its old «dividing lines.»
