Warming risk for north
Mainland to see greater temperature rises than islands, top scientist says

The impact of climate change on Greece will be most severe in the country's north, where temperatures are expected to rise by an average of 3 degrees Celsius over the next 25 years, while southern parts will be the worst hit by desertification, an eminent Greek scientist has told Kathimerini.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s
Speaking on the issue of foreign policy, the archbishop of Athens was right to repeat the quote attributed to Jesus: «Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's.» Archbishop Ieronymos's comments were made in the wake of a nationalist outburst by the leader of the Orthodox Church of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), who went as far as to suggest that Greece's northern city of Thessaloniki is FYROM's heartland.
COMMENTARY
A very rare breed of Greek
Greece has finally fulfilled its duty toward a man who over the past decades has repeatedly gone to great lengths to serve the country. Former US Senator Paul Sarbanes has always backed Greece and Cyprus, both publicly and behind the scenes. In the early years following Turkey's invasion of Cyprus he helped secure an arms embargo on Turkey and the crucial 7:10 ratio in military aid. During the foreign policy acrobatics of the late Socialist leader Andreas Papandreou, Sarbanes did everything to support Greece's positions and forestall criticism from Washington.
