EDITORIAL
A new world
The military campaign against Iraq has become a catalyst for geopolitical transformation. Washington has made no secret of its intention of refashioning the Middle East and imposing a global hegemony outside the existing international institutions that date back to World War II. It is precisely this move that has generated an unprecedented worldwide anti-war movement against the Bush administration.
COMMENTARY
Seeds of change
Grim and gray, reality leaves no room for sanguine thought. Any optimism is quickly banished by images from the battlefield, the tears of civilians, and the extent of the humanitarian disaster. The course of the war - a far cry from the initial plans of a lightning strike that would clear the way for a quick victory by the US-British forces - leaves little room for optimism. Now, no one, not even the planners of the war, believes that it will end soon.
OPINION
Hiding nasty truths
The USA «is making every effort to spare innocent civilians from harm,» US President George W. Bush reassured conscripts in Florida earlier this week. Several hours had already passed since two cruise missiles struck a busy market in a poor neighborhood in Baghdad, «liberating» dozens of Iraqis from their futile lives.
