Pavlidis probe reports disagree
ND MPs say no evidence to warrant indictment but opposition maintains pressure ahead of Monday’s vote

There is no evidence to suggest that former Aegean Minister Aristotelis Pavlidis should be indicted, the New Democracy members of a parliamentary committee that investigated the Dodecanese MP said yesterday, in contrast to the opposition deputies on the panel, who recommended that the House lift his immunity from prosecution.

EDITORIAL
We need action, not hot air
It seems obvious that someone has coached main opposition leader George Papandreou on how to avoid making any commitments or adopting any concrete proposals on the major problems that are affecting Greece. Over the past few days, we have seen the PASOK party chief touring the country on a campaign to highlight the shortcomings of the government. Yesterday, for example, he accused authorities of allowing uncontrolled development in the already densely built-up district of eastern Attica.

A torturous proces
The wrongs or rights of torture have been the subject of much debate over the past few days. But sometimes it does not take a person being shackled, dressed in an orange jumpsuit and then «waterboarded» to feel that they are being tortured. The last few weeks, which have seen a series of political/economic scandals reappear or come to the boil, have been a form of very uniquely Greek torture.
