Stance on FYROM sorted
PM, FM brief envoy ahead of UN-buffered talks in New York over name

Greece will make no specific proposal at this week's negotiations in New York aimed at resolving a 15-year dispute with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) over the latter's name but will insist on a «composite» formula that distinguishes the neighboring country from the region of Macedonia in northern Greece, government sources said yesterday.

A strike yesterday...
COMMENTARY
A load of old rubbish
As if the uncontrolled garbage dumps inundating the Greek countryside weren't enough, now we have debris from Attica's construction sites being dumped on hillsides and in fields. The only lawful dumping site for such materials, an old quarry in Koropi, has been shut down because of a Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works study that is inexcusably overdue.
COMMENTARY
The judges of our patriotism
Those who believe patriotism is cultivated through parades, marches, fiery speeches and battle songs clearly have very little respect for this nation. In defiance of common sense, they fail to grasp that anyone can be a patriot, even if they have never hoisted a Greek flag on their balcony, have never set the national anthem as a ring tone, have never used the pole of the otherwise sacred flag to assault foreigners or have never waved a plastic Greek flag at a party rally only to coldly discard it once the staged show of patriotic fervor is over.
