A young Albanian immigrant was in critical condition in a Ioannina hospital yesterday after being shot on Saturday night while trying to cross into Greece from Albania with other would-be migrants. Police said the shot was probably fired by a member of a drug-smuggling ring who spotted the flashlights being used by the migrants and mistook them for police officers. Officers said the attacker had used a Tokarev pistol, widely used by the Albanian drug mafia.

The tram’s coastal route will be suspended between Flisvos station and the terminal at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Neo Faliron from today until Friday, June 13. During that time, passengers can make use of a free bus service operated by the tram firm.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Xanthi, northeastern Greece, after being caught with half a ton of aluminum that he stole from a factory in the area. His 500-kilo haul, worth some 3,500 euros, was returned to the 63-year-old who owned the factory. Police said they arrested the man early yesterday as he was traveling in a vehicle along the Xanthi-Komotini national road.

An armed man held up a betting agency in Thessaloniki’s Neo Risio area late on Saturday, making away with 1,700 euros in cash, police said yesterday. There were no reports of injuries.

A vehicle ferry carrying 12 passengers and 68 trucks collided with the jetty at the port of Paroikia on Paros on Saturday, causing a 40 by 6 centimeter gash in the ship’s hull. Nobody on board was injured and the Panagia Krimniotissa was repaired on the spot.
