HOUSE COLLAPSE

Woman killed as roof caves in on her

A 63-year-old woman died when a large part of her two-story house in the municipality of Aridaia, northwest of Thessaloniki, collapsed, authorities said yesterday. It was not clear why the house caved in, flattening Eleni Karaousi. Her 87-year-old father and 26-year-old son survived with minor injuries.

Yacht rescue

A Saint Vincent-flagged ship, the Silina, picked up an unnamed British man and his daughter from a lifeboat 92 nautical miles southwest of Pylos in the Peloponnese on Saturday after their yacht caught fire, the Merchant Marine Ministry said. The pair had been sailing from Malta to Greece. Neither was injured.
