Four people killed in bus crash in southwestern Turkey

ANKARA (AFP) - Four people, including a British tourist, were killed and 42 others injured early yesterday morning when their bus overturned in southwestern Turkey, the Anatolia news agency reported. The British victim was identified by the agency as 29-year-old Ben Bickford. Police were trying to identify the other victims, it added. Among the injured were four South Koreans, two Dutch nationals and a Russian. The bus was traveling from the popular Mediterranean resort of Fethiye to Burdur town to the northeast - a journey of more than 200 kilometers (124 miles) - when it failed to negotiate a turn and overturned, Anatolia said.

Two bombs injure four people in southern Turkish city of Adana

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Two bombs exploded in the southern Turkish city of Adana late on Friday, injuring four people, the Anatolia news agency reported. The first bomb was placed outside a bank while the second exploded five minutes later at an office block in the center of Adana, which is home to an airbase used by US forces. No one claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, a similar twin attack in the same city in early August was claimed by the Kurdistan Liberation Hawks, an organization with links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Romania’s population could to shrink by 2 million by 2020 because of projected low birthrates, according to a study carried out by the government and published on Friday. The country has a population of about 21.7 million, but it has been decreasing rapidly because of mass emigration in addition to low birthrates. “Romania is faced with a demographic problem,” the Ministry for European Integration said in a statement. “The population has shrunk by a million since 1992, and the forecasts show another decrease by almost 2 million people by 2020.” (AP)
