Argyris Pedoulakis is appointed as coach at PAOK basketball club

Argyris Pedoulakis is the new coach at PAOK and the historic basketball club is hoping for better days with the entry of Dimitris Drosos as its main sponsor. Drosos, who last year saved AEK from its heavy debts, took over as the new chief at the Thessaloniki club which narrowly escaped relegation last season. He has appointed former PAOK and Greece player Nikos Boudouris as technical director and yesterday he hired experienced coach Pedoulakis for the club’s bench. «We decided to cooperate with Argyris Pedoulakis based on the criteria we had set for the club’s coach,» said Boudouris yesterday. Boudouris and Pedoulakis are currently in Athens where they have started making plans for the new season. Drosos will give a press conference next week once all the documents regarding his takeover of the club are signed. The Patras-born investor has a habit of appearing like a knight in shining armor to save basketball clubs from bankruptcy with his money and administrative expertise and leading them to prosperity, before disappearing again. He first took over at second-division club Alimos, in southern Athens, four years ago. A year later, he moved to Sporting, which he led to promotion from A2 to A1. Yet when he decided to move to AEK, Sporting could not meet its obligations and forfeited its right to play in the top flight for the 2007-2008 season. This summer, after a disagreement with AEK basketball club owner Yiannis Philippou, Drosos has left AEK to move north and try to save PAOK.
