American sculptor takes up artistic residence at luxurious Myconos hotel

Some guests were no doubt surprised to see American sculptor Andrew Wielawski completing a large-scale sculpture next to the swimming pool of the Tharroe Hotel on Myconos. Invited by the owners to become the hotel's «sculptor in residence» last year, Wielawski is now presenting the fruit of his labor in his first one-man show. «The Minotaur of Myconos» show is running at the hotel to October 30. Born in 1955, Wielawski graduated from Syracuse University before setting up a marble sculpture studio when he moved to Italy in 1980. He has lectured at the Royal Academy in London and a number of universities in Europe and the United States. The artist's works form part of several museum collections, as well as private ones, including those of Roger Moore, Andrea Bocelli and Sean Penn.
