Married twice as likely to be obese as singles

Next time you’re wondering what wedding present to buy a friend, perhaps a slimming course might be a good idea, as a new extensive survey indicates that married men and women are twice as likely to be clinically obese as those who are single. According to a survey of 17,341 Greeks aged between 20 and 70, the results of which will be presented today at a conference on obesity taking place in Athens, abdominal obesity, or belly fat, is also a major problem among married people. Married men are three times as likely to suffer from this form of obesity as their single counterparts, while married women are twice as likely to have the problem as those who remain unmarried. President of the Hellenic Medical Association for Obesity (HMAO) Dimitris Kiortsis said poor nutrition and a lack of exercise were mostly to blame for the phenomenon.
