The bottom of the TV barrel

Watching the nosedive in the quality of much of what is being broadcast on private television these past few weeks is almost impressive. It is, in fact, shocking that at a time when Greece is experiencing the biggest economic crisis in its recent history, many television stations prefer to dredge up the poorest examples of humanity and intellect that society has to offer and cast them in the role of stars. The day-by-day and minute-by-minute fixation with the minutiae in the life of some porn star or the detailed accounts of the divorce saga of two TV personalities simply serve to show us that the situation is getting out of control and there appears to be no limit to how low some TV stations will go in order to grab a few more ratings. We really need to start getting worried about this phenomenon and we also need to understand that a large part of the television media is presenting horrendously wrong role models for our young people and society in general.
