PM's office backs minister, digs at central banker

The prime minister's office on Tuesday responded to the alleged taping of central banker Yannis Stournaras by Alternate Minister Pavlos Polakis, saying it has always respected the independence of the Bank of Greece “even when its governor has expressed different views on crucial issues of economic policy.”

Jeffrey Sachs to give lecture at Cyprus Institute

World-renowned professor of economics Jeffrey Sachs is in Cyprus to deliver the 2019 Hubert Curien Memorial Lecture at the Cyprus Institute. The lecture starts at 6.30 p.m. and live streaming will be available on the Cyprus Institute’s YouTube channel. The title of the lecture is “Eudaimonia in the 21st Century: Looking to Aristotle for New Solutions.”

AHEPA welcomes Congress support for US-Greek relations

The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) hailed on Friday the approval by the US Congress of a funding bill that includes boosting Greek army education and training and raises obstacles in the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey.
