Golden Dawn spokesman still eludes the police
Ilias Kasidiaris, the spokesman of Greece’s far-right Golden Dawn party, was still on the loose on Friday despite police efforts to track him down.
The 31-year-old former MP on Thursday slapped one female leftist politician in the face and threw a glass of water at another during a live television debate, sparking a political furor and an order for his arrest.
Other political parties have condemned the incident involving Rena Dourou, a member of the hard left SYRIZA party and Communist party deputy Liana Kanelli, who was hit in the face.
Kasidiaris, whose party won a stunning 7 percent of the vote to enter Greek parliament for the first time on May 6, was after the incident locked in a room at the studio of private Antenna TV but broke down a door to escape, according to reports. First instance prosecutor Eleni Raikou on Thursday ordered Kasidiaris?s arrest on charges of attempted grievous bodily harm.
Golden Dawn chief Nikos Michaloliakos on Thursday claimed Kanelli attacked Kasidiaris first and that the incident had been blown out of proportion. The party said it was placing an embargo on its representatives speaking to the press. The party has in the past attacked the media for not giving its candidates adequate coverage before the polls.
Speaking at a pre-election rally in Megara, west of Athens, late Wednesday Mihaloliakos said ?elections never did this country any good.?
