Firefighters battle blaze in Messinia
Firefighters on Thursday were battling a blaze that broke out in forestland near the village of Vassiliko in the Messinia prefecture in the Peloponnese.
Some 20 firefighters manning eight engines, and aided by three water-dropping aircraft and two helicopters, were involved in the effort to douse the flames.
There were no reports of residential areas coming under threat.
Dropping temperatures over the past week have given firefighters a much-needed break after several weeks of sweltering, dry and windy weather fueled dozens of forest fires across the country.
