Golden Dawn MP told to turn in gun permit

A Golden Dawn MP has been ordered to turn in his gun license following charges of improper use after his weapon went off inside Athens International Airport in May.

The decision was mentioned in a document submitted to Parliament on Tuesday by Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias following a question by 26 SYRIZA deputies. Antonis Gregos has reportedly challenged the decision. No one was injured in the incident.

According to the same document, Giorgos Germenis (photo), also a Golden Dawn MP, may also have to give up his gun permit after a lawsuit was brought against him by Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis.

Germenis has been charged with assaulting Kaminis during a charity event at the municipality’s social grocery, later in May. Witnesses said he tried to pull out a gun before he was stopped by the mayor’s security guards. The criminal case is pending.
