Leader of Greece’s Golden Dawn party lists ‘friendly’ bishops in video

Video footage of Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos discussing with friends which Greek Orthodox bishops helped the neo-Nazi party, including getting elderly people to vote for it in last year’s elections, was found on one of the computers seized by authorities from the homes of the group’s MPs.

It emerged on Friday that magistrates investigating Golden Dawn have seen the video, which was posted on some news websites.

According to sources, Michaloliakos lists several bishops he classifies as “good” or “worthy.”

They are the bishops of Piraeus, Kalavryta and Sparta.

The Golden Dawn leader claims that the Bishop of Sparta convinced the residents of a retirement home to vote for the party last year.

Michaloliakos also alleges that Bishop Andreas of Konitsa funded the local Golden Dawn office.

The party leader, currently in pretrial custody, also referred to the Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus as a “diamond,” who he claims made efforts to get a far-right MP voted into the Cypriot Parliament.
