Intel report of plans to raid ex-IMF official’s residence
Greek authorities have intelligence reports that show anti-establishment groups had been preparing an attack on the International Monetary Fund’s permanent representative in Athens Bob Traa, Kathimerini understands.
The 55-year-old Dutchman was stationed in Greece between October 2010 and September 2013. He originally lived in an apartment on downtown Dionysiou Areopagitou Street but moved to a house in Filothei, northern Athens, after his address was leaked to the press.
Sources told Kathimerini that the intelligence service (EYP) was informed of plans to raid the Filothei residence in August. The attack would be carried out by 15-20 self-styled anarchists on motorbikes who would arrive at the spot from different directions in order to evade police patrols.
Security was scaled up in anticipation of any security threats. There was no report of an attack. Traa was replaced by American Wes McGrew in early September.
