Greek commuters have relatively long wait

Commuters in Athens and Thessaloniki wait for buses, trains and trams an average of 39 minutes a day though their counterparts in traffic-congested Rome have an even longer daily wait, according to a survey by Moovit, a mobile GPS application for public transport information and navigation, which found that travelers in Barcelona, Milan and Paris enjoy the most efficient transport services.

According to the Moovit survey, which was carried out on a sample of 12,000 commuters in 17 cities in July and August, residents of Rome must wait the longest, an average of 44 minutes daily, followed by commuters in Rio de Janeiro and Bogota, where the average wait is 41 minutes. Greek commuters are next, waiting an average of 39 minutes, the same waiting time as travelers in Mexico City and Los Angeles.

Next is Sao Paolo with a waiting time of 38 minutes followed by Buenos Aires with 35 minutes, Istanbul with 34 minutes, London with 32 minutes and Madrid and New York, both with 31 minutes. The shortest waits are in Barcelona with 22 minutes followed by Milan and Paris with 23 minutes and Tel Aviv with 24 minutes.

The average daily commute for Greek passengers is 102 minutes, according to the survey, which found that six out of 10 Greek commuters said their biggest frustration was not knowing exactly what time a bus or train was due.
