Reports awaited on Hellenic Petroleum fire that left five seriously injured

An official investigation into a fire that broke out Friday on the premises of Hellenic Petroleum facilities in the area of Aspropyrgos, west of Athens, was expected to be concluded by Monday, while an independent report carried out by the fire service was also expected to throw light onto the exact circumstances that led to the blaze.

Six employees suffered burns in the blast, which is believed to have started at around 8.20 a.m. during maintenance work on an old unit.

Five of the victims were deemed to be in a critical yet stable condition over the weekend, according to medical reports.

Meanwhile, workers participated in a protest rally outside Hellenic Petroleum’s gates on Saturday, while union members were meeting over the weekend to decide on possible industrial action.
