Samaras warns memorandum back on the cards
Amid growing upheaval within his own party, New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras lashed out at the SYRIZA-led government over the weekend, claiming that the leftists had lied to the Greek people and were leading the country into a new memorandum.
In a speech to party cadres in Xanthi, northern Greece, on Saturday, Samaras said the government’s “red lines” in negotiations had become black and warned that a barrage of taxes was ahead. The negotiations are “a fiasco,” he said.
According to sources, former conservative Premier Costas Karamanlis fears procrastination in talks is working against Greece. He is also said to have reservations about Samaras’s leadership of ND.
