Interior minister calls of Greeks to exercise vote

Amid concerns that a substantial number of Greeks may abstain from voting in Sunday’s general elections, the third call to the ballot box in under a year, Interior Minister Antonis Manitakis  on Tuesday urged voters to “make a decision.”

“These are among the most crucial elections we’ve seen since the restoration of democracy, not just because they coincide with a national crisis, the Greek economic crisis that is now entering its fifth year with no end in sight, but also because these elections coincide with a crisis in Europe,” Manitakis said during a visit to the National Printing Press, in reference to the refugee influx testing Europe’s borders and cohesion.

The minister stressed that the vote is not just a right but also an obligation and a duty, urging voters “to make a decision for themselves and not let others decide for them.”
