Turkish jets violate Greek air space

TAGS: Diplomacy, Defense

A formation of six Turkish fighter jets violated Greek national air space in the northeastern, central and southeastern Aegean on Monday, Greek defense officials said.

The Turkish jets, which were flanked on one side by a CN-235 military transport aircraft, violated Greece’s national air space more than 20 times, the defense officials said, adding that two of the aircraft were armed.

In all cases the Turkish jets were chased off by Greek aircraft.

Turkish jets have flown into Greek air space with increasing frequency since early December following a minor diplomatic spat between the two Aegean neighbors after a message on Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s Twitter account accused Ankara of conducting repeated transgressions in Greece’s national air space.
