PM’s Israel visit marks start of intensive diplomatic talks

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is due to head to Jerusalem on Wednesday with an entourage of 10 ministers to take part in a High-Level Cooperation Council meeting with Israeli officials. The trip will mark the start of an intensive period of diplomatic activity for Greece.

The main subjects in the discussions will be energy, tourism, environment, security, innovation, technology and infrastructure. Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and State Minister Nikos Pappas will be among those accompanying Tsipras on his visit.

Defense Minister Panos Kammenos is due to host his Israeli counterpart Moshe Ya’alon in Athens Tuesday. Kotzias was in Istanbul on Monday meeting with his counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu to discuss the refugee crisis, reunification talks on Cyprus and to prepare for the upcoming Greek-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council, which is due to take place at the beginning of March.

On Thursday, Tsipras and Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu are due to travel to Nicosia for the latest trilateral summit with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades.
