False alarm over ‘suspicious’ envelope sent to president

Bomb disposal experts were dispatched on Friday to a branch of Hellenic Post (ELTA) in Pyschico, near central Athens, after employees there deemed an envelope addressed to Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos to be suspicious, but further inspection determined it was harmless.

According to sources, the envelope was delivered to Pavlopoulos's home in Psychico at 12.30 p.m.

Guards there regarded the envelope as suspicious and sent it back to the local ELTA for further inspection and ELTA staff alerted bomb disposal experts.

Ultimately the envelope was found to contain a student's university certificate and is thought to have been mailed to Pavlopoulos by mistake.
