Surgeries at western Greece general hospital suspended from Monday

Surgeons at the Rio general hospital near Patra in western Greece are suspending all procedures that are not considered an emergency as of Monday.

Surgeons at the state-run hospital decided on this course of action last week in response to what they claim are serious shortages in facilities and staff that are preventing them from doing their jobs.

Among other demands, they want more intensive care beds and nursing staff.
