Syrian jihadist in Korydallos linked to drone bombings

A 22-year-old Syrian man believed to have carried out bombing attacks in the name of the Islamic State jihadist group has been at Athens’ high-security Korydallos Prison for the past three weeks, Kathimerini has learned.

The man, identified as Abdulaziz K, is believed to have been one of a group of militants who used drones to bomb international coalition forces in Syria.

He was arrested on the Aegean island of Chios in the first half of 2018 after authorities discovered that US and German authorities had banned him from entering their territory for reasons of national security.

Last month he was charged with membership of a terrorist organization and moved from the capital’s Aliens Bureau detention unit to Korydallos.

He is one of the seven suspected jihadists detained in Greece in the past three years that Citizens’ Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis referred to on Tuesday.
