Maintaining hopes for profits

Maintaining hopes for profits

Construction companies are expecting a significant boost to their annual revenues in the long term from the gradual inclusion of maintenance works in the management of major infrastructure.

The legislation recently passed provides for the mandatory maintenance of the country’s infrastructure. Sector professionals point out that while several projects are fairly new and are already being actively maintained, there is also a significant volume of infrastructure works where this is not the case, such as the Egnatia Odos, the 2004 Olympic properties and a multitude of other assets.

Infrastructure maintenance is a subcategory of the construction sector, which in other European Union states constitutes a separate field of activity for construction firms. Highways, bridges, tunnels, networks and railways are the main categories of projects that regularly require maintenance so as to remain safe and operative for users.

The cyclical element of revenues on a regular basis is an element all construction companies desire, as it bolsters the visibility of their future takings; consequently they realize that maintenance work could potentially evolve into a significant source of revenues for them in the future.
