Land in Velvento scorched; several blazes put out Some 20 hectares of land were burned by a wildfire in the municipality of Velvento in northern Greece on Saturday in one of several blazes over the weekend. Some 5 hectares of forest, 10 hectares of fields and 5 hectares of farmland were scorched by the blaze. No homes were damaged. Firefighters also needed the help of water-dropping planes to put out a blaze near Atalanti, central Greece. A fire that began on Mount Mainalo in the Peloponnese on Friday was also put out after a major effort on Saturday. Patras arrest French photographer caught while reporting on immigrants A French photographer has been arrested while reporting on the plight of illegal immigrants in the port of Patras, Agence France-Presse reported on Saturday. Oliver Jobart, 38, who works for the Sipa Press agency, spent a night in custody after being charged with assault and failing to obey authorities. He is due to appear in court today. A coast guard officer has alleged that Jobart hit him when he told him he was in an area of the port where photography is forbidden. Timetable change The Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) yesterday announced sweeping changes to its train timetables as part of a restructuring program. Copper thieves copped Police in Thessaloniki said on Saturday that they have arrested three men on suspicion of stealing some 6 tons of copper from a Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) warehouse in the city. The men were caught while trying to transport some of the metal to a hiding place, officers said.
