Thessaloniki tourism fair getting ready

Organizers of the Philoxenia tourism exhibition in Thessaloniki addressed the press yesterday as they presented details about this year’s event. According to Helexpo’s president Aristotelis Thomopoulos, there will be 820 exhibitors at this year’s event, up from 803 in 2007, of whom 120 are coming from abroad. The exhibition, which runs from October 30 to November 2, will address trends and prospects in the global and domestic tourism industry amid the global economic crisis, organizers said. Greek government figures show a 2.6 percent rise in the number of tourists entering Greece in the first nine months of the year, however, industry sources are more downbeat, saying that there has been a small drop in the number of visitors.
