Bolshoi Opera stars join forces in Athens
Despite the variety of classical music events organized around Athens, not to mention the invaluable contribution of the Greek National Opera, local audiences very rarely get the chance to enjoy performances by leading international soloists.
On one such rare occasions, five critically acclaimed soloists of Moscow?s legendary Bolshoi Theater Opera Company will be appearing at the Athens Concert Hall on Monday, February 28.
This performance will be the first time all five soloists will appear in an opera gala together — watching them perform side by side will undoubtedly lure the capital?s opera aficionados. Leading the stellar cast in the gala is the legendary mezzo-soprano Elena Obraztsova, a recipient of countless awards and distinctions. With her on stage will be renowned soprano Makvala Kasrashvili, artistic director of the Bolshoi Theater Opera Company since 2002, and Anna Aglatova, a member of the younger generation of opera singers whose career is on an upward trajectory with bookings in theaters across Europe and the United States.
The ladies of the evening will be accompanied by bass Mikhail Kazakov and tenor Pavel Kolgatin. The former, one of Russia?s most noted basses, has worked with New York?s Metropolitan Opera as well as the opera houses of Paris, Milan, Washington, Munich and Hamburg. The latter belongs to the up-and-coming generation of the Bolshoi Theater Opera Company?s young soloists, whose upcoming appearances include performing at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.
Accompanied by the company?s noted pianist Natalia Razsudova, the soloists will perform a collection of arias from various works, including ?Boris Godunov,? ?The Queen of Spades,? ?Manon,? ?Don Carlos,? ?The Barber of Seville? and ?The Elixir of Love.?
