Actor and director Lykourgos Kallergis dies

One of Greece?s best actors of his generation, Lykourgos Kallergis, passed away on Saturday at the age of 97 years.

He played more than 500 roles spanning six decades in the theatre, the cinema, the television and the radio, and served as a deputy for the Greek Communist Party from 1977 to 1981.

He went on to become a director, too, raising two generations of young actors, while also translating foreign plays into Greek.

In the last few days he was in intensive care at the Giorgos Gennimatas hospital. His funeral will be held on Tuesday.
