French actress, of Greek descent, shares Palme d’Or in Cannes

A French actress of Greek descent was invited on stage to share the 66th Cannes film festival’s top prize on Sunday evening.

Adele Exarchopoulos, aged 19, joined Tunisian-born French director Abdellatif Kechiche and French actress Lea Seydoux on stage on the festival’s last day to receive the Palme d’Or for their work in Kechiche’s “La Vie d’Adele – Chapitre 1 & 2” (“Blue is the Warmest Color”).

The film was chosen by a prestigious international jury led by US film director Steven Spielberg. In an unprecedented move the jury awarded the Palme d’Or to the film’s director as well as his leading actresses.

The three-hour long film tells the story of a lesbian love affair.
