Greek violinist nominated for classical Grammy

Prominent violinist Leonidas Kavakos has been nominated for a classical Grammy in the best chamber music/small ensemble performance category. The Greek artist has been nominated along with Italian pianist Enrico Pace for their rendition of Beethoven violin sonatas for the Decca label.

Born into a musical family in Athens in 1967, Kavakos studied at the Hellenic Conservatory before earning an Onassis Foundation scholarship for master classes with Josef Gingold at the University of Indiana in the US. At the age of 18, the soloist won the International Sibelius Competition in Helsinki.

The winners of the 56th annual Grammy Awards will be announced at a ceremony held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on January 26.
