A Flemish ensemble at the Herodion

Greek and Flemish cultures join forces in Saturday’s performance at the Herod Atticus Theater. The Flemish Radio Orchestra, conducted by Dimitris Agrafiotis and joined by pianist Dimitris Sgouros, will interpret Beethoven’s «Leonora III, Overture,» Brahms’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 in B flat Major and Franck’s Symphony in D Minor. The Flemish Radio Orchestra, founded in 1935, has given numerous performances in major concert halls throughout the world and its main goal is the promotion of Flemish composers and music. Although the orchestra was dissociated from the Belgian Broadcasting Corporation (VRT) in 1998, they still maintain their ties and all of the orchestra’s productions are broadcast by VRT. Gifted conductor Yoel Levi has been the orchestra’s conductor since 2001. Dimitris Agrafiotis has launched an international career and is a member of the Association of Greek Composers, of the Salzburg Mozarteum and of the International Theater Union. He has presented many works by Greek composers to international audiences. Dimitris Sgouros, the wonder child who captured audiences from the age of 8, continues to fascinate with his mature playing. He has won numerous international distinctions and awards. Kathimerini and the radio station SKAI 100.3 are communication sponsors of the event.
