Film music panorama tomorrow

A performance of film music will take place at the Herod Atticus Theater tomorrow, with the participation of soprano Kim Criswell and the SWR Radio Orchestra Kaiserslautern, conducted by Nic Raine. The program features Nino Rota’s «Romeo and Juliet,» Marvin Hamlisch’s music for the film «The Way We Were,» first interpreted by Barbara Streisand, Oscar-winning «Chariots of Fire» by Vangelis Papathanassiou, John Barry’s «Out of Africa» (another Oscar winner), Francis Lai’s «Un Homme et Une Femme» and James Horner’s «My Heart Will Go On,» from the recent film «Titanic.» Kim Criswell, receiver of the Helen Hayes award, began her career in Broadway productions. She has made 25 recordings to this day and has appeared with symphony orchestras in many concerts throughout the world. In June 2000, she gave her debut recital at La Scala in Milan. The SWR Radio Orchestra, founded in 1951, has been eager to maintain a great variety in its repertoire. An integral part of radio programs, it has also been taking part in television productions since 1961. The orchestra’s conductor today is Gzegorz Nowak. Nic Raine, a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music and a specialist in the field of film music, has appeared as a conductor with major orchestras throughout the world. He has worked with composers of film music and has conducted more than 30 recordings of soundtracks.
