Ithaca May 2003, published by the National Book Center, offers worthwhile fare. Elias Youris provides a useful introduction to the highly original work of Nikos Gabriel Pentzikis, whose writing embraced both modernity and tradition. There is an interview with internationally acclaimed Greek photographer Nikos Economopoulos, who talks about his ties to the Balkans. In «The Greeks in the Balkans, the Balkans in Greece,» Vangelis Hatzivassiliou examines the ways in which Greek writers are opening up to the Balkans both as subject and setting. Evripidis Garantoudis evaluates the oeuvre of poet Odysseas Elytis with reference to the 2002 collected edition of his work published by Ikaros.
