A love affair

«I find it amazing that even after all these years people are still willing to come to the theater to see me, to listen to me. Perhaps this has to do with the fact that I always respected my audience and respected myself. It’s a great responsibility, a huge fear, but at the same time it’s very empowering. The contact with the public is a love affair… I’m not singing for 50 people who know the score. I want to move the viewer because he paid a lot of money for the ticket and gave up precious time just to see me. These are not obvious things. There are singers who want to be the best. I believe that you are the best when the others are equally good: When the ensemble is good, you are better too.»
