Collectors’ items on sale

An exhibition to bring together a number of specialized collections of art and objects d’art opens tomorrow at the Royal Olympic Hotel. Titled «Syllektiki,» the exhibition is taking place for the fourth consecutive year and is organized by ATOU SA (a company that specializes in exhibitions) under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens. The show includes 61 stands – a third taken up by Athens and Thessaloniki antique dealers, while private collectors and other institutions, including the Numismatic Center of the Acropolis and Militos Publications, comprise the rest. This year’s exhibition focuses on items related to the Olympic Games from the late 19th century to the present. Another area of interest at the «Syllektiki» exhibition is Greek history and culture. Historical memorabilia and items related to the Greek Revolution are prominent. The visitor can find weapons, swords and jewelry from the mid-19th century and trophies related to the struggle for independence. There is also a large collection of Greek coins, banknotes, stocks and lottery tickets, among them the first paper drachma notes of 1885, a rare banknote with the Hagia Sofia pictured on it and the silver drachma coin of 1910. Among the stands, one also finds collections of handmade miniature soldiers dressed in traditional Greek costumes, rare publications, minerals and semi-precious stones, stamps and philatelic medals, lapel pins and religious icons. «Syllektiki» covers a broad spectrum of items and shows the specialized nature of collections. The opening of the exhibition is tomorrow at 7 p.m. It will run through Sunday from 11 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Royal Olympic Hotel (28-34 Athanassiou Diakou, tel 210.928.8411).
