Greek Sale to be held at Bonhams
After the Sotheby’s auction which was recently held in London, yet another sale of Greek works of art has been scheduled to take place at the British capital on December 16. This will be the third Greek Sale to be organized by Bonhams, and it will be carried out together with of art experts company Art Expertise. More than 100 works, either by major Greek artists or Greek-related, will be available for sale. They all come from private collections in Greece, Britain, France, Switzerland, Germany and the USA. Many of the paintings on sale are by prominent Greek artists and are considered to be of great value. One of the paintings that stand out is Nikolaos Gyzis’s «O Zeibekis,» estimated between 80,000 and 120,000 pounds sterling, a painting of unrivalled excellence in terms of its sketching and of a rare sensitivity in the colors. Another is Georgios Bouzianis’s «Kathisto Koritsi» (Seated Girl), estimated at between 50,000 and 70,000 pounds, which has all the main characteristics of the first phase of the artist’s mature period. More works will attract the attention of buyers at the Bonhams sale: Dimitris Galanis’s «La Danseuse» (The Female Dancer), Nikolaos Gyzis’s «Portreto Kallitechni» (Portrait of an Artist), Constantinos Parthenis’s «Mythologiki Skini» (Mythological Scene), Georgios Bouzianis’s «I Gyneka tou Kallitechni» (The Artist’s Wife), Yiannis Moralis’s «Gynekio Gymno» (Female Nude), Nikolaos Lytras’s «Topio» (Landscape), Spyros Vassiliou’s «Nekri Fysi» (Nature Morte), Dimitris Mytaras’s «Topio» (Landscape), Nikos Engonopoulos’s «Mnimio tou Architektona» (Architect’s Monument), as well as works by Vassilios Hatzis, Yiannis Gaitis, Georgios Gounaropoulos, Pericles Vyzantios, Pavlos, Alekos Fassianos, Yiannis Tsarouchis and others. All the works will be on display at the Epistrofi Exhibition Hall (6-8 Taki, Psyrri) from December 2-4 and will then travel to London, to be exhibited at Bonhams between December 12 and 15. Estimation on the works of art ranges from 1,000 to 180,000 pounds sterling.
