Last night of ‘Sleeping Beauty’

Following its successful performances of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet «The Nutcracker» at the Coronet Theater, the Odessa State Academical Opera and Ballet Theater performs yet another favorite Tchaikovsky ballet, «The Sleeping Beauty.» The celebrated ballet’s performances, which began on New year’s Day, come to an end tonight. The leading character in the ballet (which is based on the well-known fairy tale by Charles Perrault) is princess Aurora, whose father rules a fantastical kingdom. Aurora and the entire kingdom fall asleep after being cursed by a wicked witch, and the young princess can only be awakened with a kiss from a prince. One hundred years later, while the kingdom still sleeps, Prince Desire comes across the forgotten palace during a hunting trip, falls asleep with the princess and finally wakes her up. Soloists Olga Rozhevich, Andrei Litvinov, Akzhol Mussakhanov and Ganna Surmina along with the corps de ballet will perform Marius Petipa’s choreography, which has been adapted by Vladimir Troshchenko. «Sleeping Beauty,» at the Coronet Theater, 11 Frynis, Pangrati, tel 210.701.2123.
