Skalkottas Hall inaugurated with halcyonic recital

Viennese pianist Paul Badura-Skoda charmed the Athenian public this week when he inaugurated the Nikos Skalkottas Hall at the International Congress Center of the Athens Concert Hall. The 76-year-old musician filled the chamber to overflowing with his performances of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Schumann. His rendition of Beethoven’s «Apassionata» was like a sunny day rather than a threatening storm. «The light and sun of Greece must have infused my playing,» he said. «I’ll remember these halcyon days of January.»
