Russian virtuoso in Athens

Russian violin virtuoso Maxim Vengerov returns to Greece for a single performance at the Athens Concert today. Vengerov’s appearance is part of the Athens Concert Hall’s Great Interpreters series. An award-winning and critically acclaimed artist, Vengerov is a particularly popular performer. Born in the Western Siberian capital of Novosibirsk in 1974, he was only 5 when he began violin lessons with Galina Turtschaninova. Today, with his «Kreutzer» Stradivarius, he tours the world playing about 130 concerts a year in 100 countries. At the Athens Concert Hall, the 28-year-old artist will interpret works by Bach and Brahms. He will be accompanied at the piano by Evgenia Startseva – pianist Fazil Say, who was originally scheduled to appear, was unable to travel to Athens.
