Three Greek women — one the speaker, two ministers

Anna Psarouda-Benaki, the first woman in Greece ever to be appointed parliamentary speaker, the third highest office in the country, is a professor of criminal law, a parliamentary deputy, and a former culture and justice minister in the Mitsotakis administration. There are also two women in the Cabinet – the psychiatrist and former head of the ND’s Euro MPs and former Deputy Health Minister Marietta Giannakou, who has been appointed minister for education and religion. Another former deputy minister, Fanni Palli-Petralia, returns to the Culture Ministry as alternate minister with responsibility for the Olympic Games, a role she had assumed in opposition.
