A magician’s dazzling tricks at the Coronet
One of the world’s top magicians and the recipient of various awards is currently performing in Athens. Performances began last night at the Coronet Theater (running to April 25), where this exciting entertainer is already enchanting local audiences with a two-hour magical extravaganza. His name is George (he is of Greek origin) and he travels the world presenting spectacular shows of awe-inspiring tricks. Many of George’s stage acts have won international recognition in several competitions, while he has participated in numerous theater productions and on televisions shows all over the world. He describes himself as someone who was born to be a magician: «I remember when I was 8 years old, when I discovered the similarity between reality and illusion. My personal bet was to be able to show this to the rest of the world. It became an obsession. I wanted to persuade the world that what seemed impossible was actually feasible,» he says. George’s most celebrated shows include «Cinemagic,» a performance first presented in 1991 and «Millennium Magic,» a special production for 2000 – the latter turned out to be a particularly well-traveled performance. George has also won a number of prestigious awards, including the first prize in the Master of Grand Illusion competition in Germany in 1993; third prize at the Best Grand Illusion competition in Yokohama, Japan in 1994; and first prize at The Magic Hands competition in Stuttgart in 1995. In the Greek capital, George is accompanied on stage by his assistants as well as by a group of sensational dancers. That’s not all, however. Also joining him on stage are adventurous members of the audience. Coronet Theater, 11 Frynis, Pangrati, tel 210.701.2123. Wednesdays-Mondays, at 9 p.m. until April 25.
