Royalty and diplomats raise funds for charity

Lifeline’s brilliant gala translates into love and care for newborn infants in Serbia. The charity gala held by Lifeline under the aegis of Crown Princess Katherine of Yugoslavia to raise money to fund equipment for neonatal and gynecological clinics in Serbia and Montenegro was a huge success. It touches a chord in Athens because the area concerned has the highest rate of infant mortality in Europe. Athenian socialites turned out in force to support the aim of the evening event, which was held at the Hotel Grande Bretagne. Seated around tables named after spring flowers were the ambassadors of the United States, Belgium, Italy, Chile, Ghana and, of course, Yugoslavia. Representing the Greek government was Yianna Despotopoulou, general secretary of the Health Ministry, who has distinguished herself with her work for the Special Olympics.
