A newly established award

The Kythera Cultural Association is asking interested publishers, distributors or authors to submit any recent Greek publications on photography. The books will participate in nominations for the the Milos Prize, to be given this coming fall in association with Kythera Photographic Encounters, an annual conference on mainly Greek photography organized by the Kythera Cultural Association and John Stathatos, photographer, writer on photography and the director of Kythera Photographic Encounters. A recently established prize (this year is its second, while last year’s prize went to an album by photographer Giorgos Depolas), the Milos Prize is aimed at encouraging publications on photography. It comprises a cash award of 2,000 euros that is given during the Photographic Encounters, an event that gathers photographers, curators and researchers in the field and, apart from lectures, also includes photography exhibitions. The books that are eligible for the Milos Prize are: photographic albums and monographs, anthologies, historic or sociological studies on photography, books related to the history of photography as well as exhibition catalogues. The committee that is to decide the winner includes, this year, researcher Nina Kassianou, director of the Photography Museum in Thessaloniki, Kostis Antoniadis and Yiannis Stathatos. Four books will be short-listed during the summer and the Milos Prize is awarded in October. Information: [email protected] or Kythera Photographic Encounters Kythera Cultural Association, P.O.
