Exhibition goes back to 1896 Games

Back to Athens 1896, with the enthusiasm of the times in an exhibition at the Old Parliament. Greek President Constantinos Stephanopoulos will open «Athens 1896 – International Olympic Games» on Wednesday, June 3, an exhibition which contains fascinating material from the National Historical Museum and other sources, in the gallery of the Old Parliament. The exhibition is being held in collaboration with the Culture Ministry’s General Secretariat for the Olympic Games. It sets the protagonists of the revival of the modern Games in the political, social, intellectual and artistic context of the time, and the organization of the Games in what was then the small city of Athens, which greeted this unprecedented sporting event with enthusiasm.
