‘Olympic Spirit and Modern Greek Art’

Patras is the last stop for the exhibition «The Olympic Spirit and Modern Greek Art,» which opens there on Monday to conclude a tour of Olympic cities begun a year ago in Hania and then went to Iraklion, before moving on to Thessaloniki, Volos, Ioannina and Athens. A book published to accompany the exhibit was edited by Kathimerini art critic Peggy Kounenaki. So it is now Patras’s turn, 38 days before the Games are due to start, to host the exhibit held under the aegis of the Culture Ministry’s Olympic Games General Secretariat to highlight modern Greek art in the spirit of the great responsibility Greece has assumed in bringing the Games back to their birthplace. It includes 75 paintings, sculptures, engravings, digital photographs and videos by 57 modern Greek artists, including the late Yiannis Tsarouchis, academic Panayiotis Tetsis, the internationally renowned Alekos Fasianos, Costas Tsoklis and young artists such as Nikos Alexiou, Praxitelis Tzanoulinos and the late Panos Feidakis.
