Football passion breaks international barriers

An original photography exhibition, organized jointly by the Goethe Institute and Magnum Photos, is currently on display at Thessaloniki’s Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and will also open at the foyer of Nea Ionia’s Metaxourgeio venue in Volos tonight. The exhibition consists of photographs from over 50 highly regarded international photographers (including Cartier-Bresson, Gruyaert, Koudelka, List and others), who have captured the importance of football worldwide, as well as unusual moments and surprises that have taken place during matches. The photographs are a vivid depiction of the passion that football evokes in people of all cultures, all backgrounds and all religions, who share the same enthusiasm when scoring a goal. The exhibition happily coincided with Greece’s unexpected Euro 2004 soccer victory and the Goethe Institute in Athens and Thessaloniki hence dedicated it to Greece. Over the next two years, the exhibition is scheduled to travel around the world. «Planet Football» is on display at Thessaloniki’s Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (154 Egnatia, tel 2310.240.002/281.212) until September 19 and will be on display at Nea Ionia’s Metaxourgeio in Volos until August 8.
